Gatlinburg's Winter Magic Kickoff & Chili Cookoff is an annual event that celebrates the start of Gatlinburg's Winter Magic season with a chili cook-off and the lighting of millions of holiday lights throughout the city. This year, the event takes place on November 6, 2025, at the Shade Tree Parking Lot. The event features chili tasting from local restaurants and organizations, live music, and a special appearance by Bush's famous spokes dog, Duke. The lighting of Winter Magic, with over one million LED lights, will also be officially launched at the event.
