Kicking off the Holidays

For many visitors, Winterfest officially begins with the season's kickoff celebrations and community traditions. One of the most anticipated early events is the Gatlinburg Chili Cookoff on Nov. 12, 2026, when downtown Gatlinburg fills with the aroma of homemade chili, live entertainment and friendly competition. The following day, Pigeon Forge hosts its Winterfest Kickoff at Patriot Park from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., welcoming visitors with festive activities and the beginning of the city's holiday season. Meanwhile, Gatlinburg's Winter Magic lighting celebration begins Nov. 5 and continues through Feb. 15, while Sevierville joins the regional celebration with dazzling light displays, seasonal events and holiday attractions that remain illuminated throughout Winterfest.

What makes Winterfest unique is that it isn't a single event. Instead, it is a region-wide celebration stretching across Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and nearby communities. Together, the cities create a holiday destination unlike any other in the South, with more than 15 million lights displayed along a 25-mile corridor through the Smoky Mountains.
